App Monetization & Subscription Growth Consulting

For consumer App and Web teams with a live product, users, and revenue. Identify growth opportunities across paywalls, trial conversion, subscription retention, and revenue analytics.

I'm Erwin Zheng, a Tsinghua SEM graduate with experience owning consumer product monetization. At Solvely, my work covered subscription conversion, segmentation, pricing, promotions, and monetization analytics.

Who this is for

AI tools, education, productivity, and utility products, especially international consumer apps earning revenue through subscriptions or in-app purchases. The best fit is a team with real usage data and product and engineering capacity to implement changes.

  • You have new and active users, but few complete a purchase after reaching the paywall.
  • Users start trials, but trial-to-paid conversion or renewal is weak.
  • You want to test pricing, packages, or free usage limits and measure their revenue impact.
  • Product and growth teams use different definitions of LTV, channel ROI, or experiment lift.

Areas of focus

01 · Monetization funnel

Review acquisition landing pages, onboarding, first value, paywall exposure, checkout, and payment success. Find drop-off points and prioritize changes by acquisition source and user behavior.

02 · Paywalls and pricing

Evaluate timing, layout, messaging, and benefit presentation. Test free and paid boundaries, weekly, monthly, and annual packages, and promotions using both conversion and revenue outcomes.

03 · Trial conversion and renewal

Track trial starts, first charges, renewals, cancellations, and refunds. Distinguish voluntary cancellation from payment failure, compare subscription cohorts, and plan reminders and win-back journeys.

04 · Segmentation and lifecycle

Segment by source, market, product usage, and purchase behavior. Plan offers and messaging for paywall exits, abandoned subscriptions, trial expiry, and cancelled subscriptions.

05 · Revenue analytics and experiments

Align events, orders, and subscription states. Define funnels, cohorts, LTV, and channel ROI; specify hypotheses, allocation, observation windows, and guardrails to evaluate incremental results.

06 · Product and growth collaboration

Translate findings into a prioritized experiment backlog. Work with product teams on scope and growth teams on channel and audience differences, then review revenue outcomes together.

Engagements and deliverables

Consultation
Focus on a specific problem, review the available evidence, and identify causes to test and next actions.
Monetization audit
Review product experience and available data, producing a funnel diagnosis, measurement recommendations, and prioritized experiments.
Ongoing advisory
Work with product and growth teams to review implementation, experiments, subscription revenue, conversion, and lifecycle performance.

Scope, cadence, and fees depend on product stage, data availability, and implementation resources. Deliverables and responsibilities are agreed before the engagement begins.

How an audit starts

  1. Product context: share the product URL, target markets, revenue model, and the problem you want to address.
  2. Measurement: review available usage, revenue, funnel, and subscription data and align definitions.
  3. Priorities: weigh potential impact, validation cost, and team capacity to choose the first experiments.
  4. Review: evaluate conversion, revenue, and refund metrics over an agreed window before expanding, adjusting, or stopping a test.

Aggregated figures are sufficient for an initial conversation. No customer personal data or account passwords are needed.

Common questions

Can we work together before launch?

Yes, on monetization models, paid benefits, and measurement preparation. Revenue optimization needs real user behavior; before launch, the priority is a validation plan.

Can we focus on a single paywall?

Yes. The review also considers acquisition source, trigger timing, packages, and payment steps to locate the cause of low conversion.

Do we need a complete data platform first?

Not necessarily. Existing events, payments, and subscription records can support an initial diagnosis. Additional tracking should address specific gaps in decision-making.

Is a particular revenue increase guaranteed?

No. Results depend on product demand, traffic mix, baseline conversion, and execution. We agree on deliverables and measurement; historical results are not a promise for another product.
